Although its a greasy mess we expect that this TorqueFlite 727 transmission should clean up really well and serve its purposes with some minor modifications.  These automatic transmissions have a good reputation as one of the best built during the muscle car era.  One great tool we love to use is a fluid extractor before removing the transmission or changing or repairing transmission pans or filters.  Makes the job so much easier.  See last photo.
